Hallgrimskirkja (front)

This is the front of Hallgrimskirkja (Hallgrim's church), a Lutheran church in Reykjavik. Set on a hill, it is visible for miles, and offers an amazing view from its tower. Rev. Hallgrimur Petursson (1614-1674) was a poet who wrote Iceland's most popular hymnal. The church was started in 1940, the chapel was consecrated in 1948, and the tower and wings were completed in 1974.
