After church, I did homework with Mark: recorder practice and a little 3rd Grade math to make sure he doesn't fall behind his St. Thomas peers. Thereafter, we did a few chores around the house.

We also watched the opening game of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. This eight-team tournament includes the top teams of the 6 FIFA Confederations ("Confederation" is FIFA's word for global regions), the current FIFA World Cup holder (Italy), and the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup host nation (South Africa). Today's match included South Africa and Iraq. It was a pretty lousy game, and it ended in a 0-0 draw. South Africa had a near game-winner, but a shot heading into Iraq's net bounced off the heel of a South African player. If you ask me, both teams played not to lose.

The great thing is that the United States is a Confederation winner, too. The first US game is tomorrow evening against Italy. The US was the only team to earn a point against Italy in the 2006 World Cup.

Sadly all the games are played "up country": none in Cape Town. So, I can't go to a match.

I took a few photos today. See below.
