V47
This is Eskom's V47 turbine. It has a 47 m rotor diameter and a 660 kW rating. This was the only turbine rotating at the time of our visit. Maintenance issues have plagued the site since its opening. It takes up to 6 months for needed spare parts to arrive from Europe. And, Eskom doesn't want to keep spares on hand, due to the cost. So, the machines often sit idle.
Wild daisies cause the yellow color at the foot of the turbine. It is still flower season in the Western Cape.
