Toyi-toyi
This float poked fun at the (now) old days of Apartheid by re-creating the spirit of some of the anti-Apartheid protests. The truck had a bunch of white "soldiers" firing a fake tear gas cannon. Behind the truck were a bunch of youths who were toyi-toying as they pursued the soldiers. I had mixed feelings about this. Such protests were among the many causes for the fall of Apartheid. But, they were no laughing matter. Many protesters and fewer police officers lost their lives during the real marches. I suppose it is good that young South Africans are far-enough removed from the challenges and tragedies of the Apartheid; those days are now the stuff of parades.
