Side View is the only one
I realized, when I was done, that I had never gotten a picture of my driver--except for this one.
My driver to my choice of up to 6 wineries was Hussein, and he was friendly and informative. With his accent, I couldn't quite grasp his name, so I asked, "As in Saddam Hussein?" He gave a great answer back, "No. As in Barack Hussein".
Hussein was willing to pick me up whenever and whenever I wanted, and it only cost me about 20 U.S. dollars. I began my tour at 9:30, and ended it at 4:30. In that time, I visited 4 wineries.
We drove through a township, and Hussein began talking about being colored, white, or black in South Africa. I asked him what he would be considered, and he said colored, because his mother's roots were Malaysian, and his father's were Indian.
He went on to talk at length of the conditions of life for all groups in South Africa, and then went on to say that most blacks are at peace in South Africa in being patient for change--in a way that African Americans would not be. I asked him why he thought that was true. He surmised that it was about who was in power. He said that in South Africa, it will likely always be that a black leader will be in control. He said that blacks now make many of the decisions for their country. He said that in contrast, the U.S. now has a Black president, but will likely not have one in 4 or 8 years, nor are their congresspeople a Black majority.
He also said that the term African American was strange. he said that many of that group had never been to Africa. He said that he would think a more accurate term would be Black American. He also siad that White Americans could rightly be called European Americans, if we kept insisting that Black Americans be called African Americans.
