This photo of Catherine and Mark was taken in the Jonkershoek Nature reserve on 2009-06-05 while Tracy was on her 2-week conference. Catherine, Mark, and I went exploring and ended up at a fly fishing spot where I took this photo in the late afternoon.
What I love about this photo:
* Natural smiles
* Interesting pose: Catherine was looking down at something on the ground and Mark joined her. I asked them to look up, and Mark instinctively leaned in, just slightly.
* Excellent bokeh from my 85 mm f/1.8 lens.
* Color, color, color: Warm reds in the foreground, where they belong. Cool greens in the background where they belong.
* Light: The area was strongly back-lit by late afternoon sun, and they were in the shade of a tree. But, when I look at the image, I can't believe how much soft, reflected light is being thrown on their faces. I think it was this way because of reflections off the mountains that formed the valley.
* Imperfections: This was a very candid shot, not posed at all. I think the wisp of hair running near Catherine's left eye lends a bit of reality to the image.
